"Semi-auto endothermic revolver. Ice explosions. Freezes targets." ― Description

The Frostbite is a Russian semi-automatic Wonder Weapon. It can only be acquired from the Mystery Box and is rarer than other weapons.

The weapon fires freezing rays that sap the impact area of heat, leaving a spherical zone of frost. Zombies caught in the surrounding area are increasingly slowed by 5% to 95% as the temperature drops. After a 1.2 second delay, the area freezes over in an ice explosion.

Direct shots from the Frostbite always deal 50% of the target's current health in damage. As such, it can never kill outright. However, the resulting ice explosion does 2400 base damage plus 60% of the target's maximum health.

An ice explosion alone will be able to kill zombies up to and including round 28. After which, it will always take two ice explosions to kill a zombie. Zombies struck by both the initial frost ray and the resulting ice explosion will always be killed, regardless of round.

Dealing lethal damage with the Frostbite will instead freeze the zombie. Frozen zombies are encased in ice and become immune to player damage. The ice breaks after 3 to 5 seconds, instantly killing the zombie. Players can melee frozen zombies to instantly break them. The player who froze the zombie will always receive the kill credit.

Any players that get caught in their own ice explosion will also be temporarily frozen. Frozen players cannot move for 0.8 seconds and gradually regain movement over the next 1.7 seconds. Frozen players do not take defrosting damage, but can still be damaged when hit by zombies.

Pros & Cons[]

Pros:

  • Ice explosions freeze zombies.
  • Slows zombies within the zone.
  • Lightweight nature allows for unhindered mobility.
  • Can be used while downed.

Cons:

  • Delayed explosion.
  • Frozen zombies can block players.
  • Players themselves can get caught in their own freezes.
  • Has a smaller chance to be acquired from the Mystery Box.

Obtaining the Frostbite[]

For more information, see Mystery Box#Wonder Weapons.

The Frostbite has a much lower chance to be acquired from the Mystery Box.

The weapon will not appear in the box during rounds 1 to 5. From rounds 6 to round 10, the weapon has a 15% chance to be included in the Mystery Box when opened. From round 11 onwards, the weapon has a 20% chance of being included, meaning the odds of getting the Frostbite is 5 times lower compared to other Mystery Box weapons.

Additionally, the Frostbite is limited to only one person in the game. If another player has a Frostbite, it will no longer appear in the Mystery Box, until the existing weapon is either lost or replaced by that player.

Weapon Upgrade[]

When upgraded via the Pack-a-Punch machine, the Frostbite becomes the Absolute Zero.

With the Black Ice Module, the weapon has increased damage, dealing 100% of the target's maximum health. This allows direct hits and the delayed splash to always freeze, regardless of round.

However, players that freeze themselves are frozen for longer and are unable to move for 1.8 seconds.

In addition to the enhanced freeze, Absolute Zero also has an increased maximum ammunition reserve.

Trivia[]

  • The base weapon model of the Frostbite was built by the Roblox user manofthelol.
  • The Frostbite model is based off of the MP-412 REX.
    • The MP-412 REX is a Russian break-open revolver, similarly to the Frostbite.
    • The origin year of the Frostbite, 2093, is a reference to the year the MP-412 REX was designed, 1993.
  • The Frostbite is inspired by the Winter's Howl in Call Of Duty Zombies.
    • The two weapons have similar reload animations and freezing mechanics.
  • The manufacturer of the Frostbite, Techtronika Cryo, is a reference to the fictitious Russian high-tech weapon manufacturer Techtronika from Cyberpunk 2077.
  • The Frostbite is fueled by liquid carbonite.
    • This is a reference to liquid carbonite in the Star Wars franchise, in which the fictitious substance made from Carbon gas is used for rapid-freezing.
  • The upgraded Frostbite, Absolute Zero, has a unique blue and black color scheme as opposed to the red and black of other upgraded weapons.
  • The upgraded Frostbite is named after the scientific term absolute zero.
    • Absolute zero refers to the the lowest limit of the thermodynamic temperature scale at 0 kelvin (or −273.15 °C).
  • The Frostbite was added in the Frostbite Update on October 27, 2021.
