The M26 MASS is an American straight pull bolt-action shotgun. It can only be acquired through the Mystery Box.
The M26 MASS allows the player to unload blasts of high damage buckshot up close while having fast handling characteristics. Although manually cycled, the straight pull bolt-action can be cycled relatively quickly for a respectable rate of fire and minimal down time. The above average aim down sight speed allows the player to swiftly engage targets.
Individual shots from the M26 MASS does high damage up close, capable of killing zombies in one shot to the head up to and including round 20 when using Double Tap Root Beer.
The weapon is magazine feed, allowing the player to quickly refill their weapon after depleting their ammo without the hassle of individually inserting shells. However, the M26 MASS has a relatively small magazine capacity that often necessitates frequent reloads.
The M26 MASS suffers a short effective range, even when compared to other shotguns. The weapon's maximum damage range is shorter and its damage begins to fall off sooner. In addition, the M26 MASS is also rendered virtually useless at further ranges, similarly to other shotguns. Its pellets will not do any damage at distances beyond their maximum range.
Overall, the M26 MASS is a lightweight shotgun capable of high damage at close range. The fast handling of the weapon allows the player to close the gap and swiftly deliver maximum damage at very close range. However, the effectiveness of the weapon quickly falls off at a distance, even more so than other shotguns. Careless use can leave the player exposed at striking distance of zombies.

Weapon Upgrade[]
When upgraded via the Pack-a-Punch machine, the M26 MASS becomes the Machete.
With the Flechette Module, the upgraded weapon fires flechette rounds filled with small darts instead of the standard buckshot. The flechette rounds greatly increase the penetrative capability of the weapon from low to high. They also increase the maximum range of the weapon, giving a flatter damage profile with less damage falloff.
The flechette darts can be seen when firing into a wall.
In addition to the flechette rounds, the Machete gains increased based damage and headshot multiplier. With Double Tap Root Beer, the upgraded weapon can potentially kill zombies with one shot to the head up to and including round 41. The capacity of the weapon magazine is also increased along with a larger pool of reserve ammunition.
