"Semi-auto grenade launcher. Revolving action. Explosive ordnance." ― Description

The Milkor MGL Mk 1 is a South African double-action grenade launcher. It can only be acquired from the Mystery Box.

The revolving cylinder of the Milkor MGL Mk 1 allows it to have a high magazine capacity for an explosive launcher. The weapon is capable of launching multiple grenades in rapid succession.

The grenades fired from the Milkor MGL Mk 1 travel in a parabolic trajectory. The player will often have to aim above further targets to account for the drop of the projectile.

Grenades explode on impact with a surface and are fuzed to have a short safe arming distance. Grenades will not detonate unless it has traveled this distance. As such, a grenade hitting a zombie in close proximity will bounce off and not explode, but will still deal direct impact damage.

The safe arming fuze of grenades largely protect the player from getting caught in their own explosions, but also greatly restricts the effectiveness of the Milkor MGL Mk 1 in close range. As such, the weapon is more suitable to medium range use, where the player can fire grenades that will reliably explode.

Overall, the Milkor MGL Mk 1 is a high capacity grenade launcher capable of rapid shots. It is most effective when maintaining a minimum distance from zombies and lobbing grenades into a larger hoard from medium range.

Pros & Cons[]

Pros:

  • High damage.
  • Explosive area of effect.
  • Multiple shot.
  • Effective against hordes.

Cons:

  • Slow reload.
  • Low reserves.
  • Minimum safe arming distance.
  • Low mobility and poor handling.

Weapon Upgrade[]

When upgraded via the Pack-a-Punch machine, the Milkor MGL Mk 1 becomes Mea Culpa.

With the Aftershock Module, the grenade explosions from upgraded weapon will also trigger a slightly delayed secondary explosion at the same position. The secondary explosion deals the same maximum damage as the first at its center, but has a smaller splash radius and lower minimum damage at its edge.

Grenades that do not explode by impacting before arming will not trigger the aftershock explosion.

In addition to the aftershock explosions, Mea Culpa also benefits from increased ammunition reserves. The upgraded weapon also has increased direct impact and splash damage.

Trivia[]

  • The base weapon model of the Milkor MGL Mk 1 was built by the Roblox user Anim8t0r.
  • MGL stands for Multiple Grenade Launcher.
  • Milkor is the South African company that developed and manufactured the original MGL.
    • The name "Milkor" is a portmanteau of Militêre Korporasie in Afrikaans, meaning "Military Corporation".
  • The name of the upgraded weapon is a reference to the phrase mea culpa.
    • Latin for "my fault" or "my mistake", mea culpa is an acknowledgement of having done wrong.
    • The phrase comes from the Confiteor, a Western Christian prayer and confession of sinfulness.
  • The cartridge that the weapon fires, "40mm HE Round", is specifically the 40x46mm M381 high explosive grenade.
    • In real life, the M381 round has an arming distance of 2.4 to 3.0 meters.
  • After firing the last shot, the cylinder will be rotated to be no longer aligned with the barrel.
    • In real life, this acts as a visual indicator for when the cylinder finished firing.
  • The weapon visually keeps track of which grenades have been fired.
    • This can be seen in the reload animation, when the player dumps the remaining rounds along with shells.
    • The shells from fired rounds have have a darker colored "dented" primers in the cylinder, which is most noticeable during the inspect animation.
  • During the reload animation, the extractor star can be seen extending to empty rounds from the cylinder.
  • When reloading with not enough rounds in reserves to completely refill the magazine cylinder, the player visually inserts the proper number of remaining rounds during the reload animation.
  • A Wilcox MK-32 Speed Loader is used to reload the Milkor MGL Mk 1.
  • The Milkor MGL Mk 1 is outfitted with a M2A1 reflex sight made by Milkor USA instead of a Armson OEG collimator sight that it is commonly issued with.
    • The M2A1 reflex sight is commonly issued with the M32 grenade launcher, a clone of the Milkor MGL produced by Milkor USA that is used by the US military.
  • The Milkor MGL Mk 1 was added in the Milkor MGL Update on March 1, 2023.
