The Pack-a-Punch machine is a utility that allows a player to upgrade each of their weapons once, granting each a unique Module.
Each use of the Pack-a-Punch costs 5000 points.
Similar to other powered utilities, the Pack-a-Punch machine will require the power to be turned on. However, it also takes several other steps, depending on the map, before it can be accessed and used.
It takes the form of a light blue machine with a metal frame. It has a large open slot with exposed gears and a large rectangular sign mounted on top. Once active, the machine emits a light blue glow and its gears begin to grind.
Use
Once active, players can interact with the Pack-a-Punch machine to upgrade their weapons for 5000 points. Only one player can use the Pack-a-Punch machine at a time.
The player will unequip their current normal weapon to be upgraded. Sound effects will be heard as their weapon slowly enters and disappears into the machine. This process takes about 5 seconds, after which the upgraded weapon will emerge.
Players will be notified by a high pitched "ding" sound and a red flag will be raised to signal that the weapon is ready. The player can then interact with the Pack-a-Punch machine to retrieve their upgraded weapon.
If left unattended for 2.5 seconds, the weapon will begin retracting slowly back into the machine. After another 5 seconds, the weapon will be quickly reclaimed by the machine and be lost forever.
Once the weapon has been retrieved or retracted back into the machine after 7.5 seconds, the flag will be lowered back down. The Pack-a-Punch machine will reset, taking 2 seconds before it can be used again.
Effect on Weapons
- For a full list of upgraded weapons, see Upgraded Weapons.
The Pack-a-Punch machine will turn weapons into their upgraded form.
Upgraded weapons have a different name and a distinct neon glow. Most upgraded weapons generally follow a neon red and black color scheme. The upgraded Beretta M9, or Call of the Void, becomes neon purple and black instead. When fired, upgraded weapons have modified gunfire sounds and produce a red muzzle flash. When viewing other players, tracer rounds are replaced with bright red lasers.
As a baseline, upgraded weapons have boosted stat lines. Most weapons gain increased damage, magazine capacity, and reserve ammunition.
In addition, upgraded weapons gain a Pack-a-Punch Module, which grant unique effects depending on the weapon.
When upgrading a weapon, the weapon will be returned at maximum ammunition, regardless of the ammunition count before. Upgraded wall weapons can also replenish ammunition reserves off the wall at an increased cost of 4500 points.
Location and Activation
Graduation
The Pack-a-Punch machine is located in the storage room behind a locked door in the starting classroom area.
To access the room, the player must retrieve a small silver key from the power room by interacting with it. Once the key has been taken, the player will be able to interact with the storage room door, unlocking it to reveal the unactivated Pack-a-Punch machine within. It does not necessarily need to be the same player who took the key to unlock the door.
To activate the Pack-a-Punch machine, the player will need to start the Harvester that is connected to the machine by interacting with it. It is located on the shelf beside the Pack-a-Punch machine. A sound effect will be heard and the canister will emit a faint red glow to indicate that it is active. Note that the Harvester requires the power to be turned on before it can be used.
Once the Harvester is active, the player will need to kill zombies near it to start collecting Essence. Zombie corpses will emit a particle effect on death to indicate that their Essence is being harvested. Looking at the Harvester will show the exact percentage filled. The Harvester's range extends to cover the classroom starting area and most of the lower library area.
At 100% Essence, the Harvester will emit a sound cue, indicating the completion of the harvest. The powered Pack-a-Punch machine will then light up and be ready to be used.
Research
The Pack-a-Punch machine is located in the Pack-a-Punch room, hidden beneath the staircase in the testing chamber.
To access the room, the player must first restore power to the map by interacting with the power switch in the labs area.
Once the map is powered, the player must divert power to the teleporters by interacting with four consoles located around the testing chamber. There are two consoles in the bottom area of the room, one near the decontamination entrance and one by the staircase. Two consoles are located on the top area of the testing chamber, one on each side.
Consoles that can be interacted with will have a glowing green display. Once power has been diverted on the console, its screen will turn red. Progress can be tracked by looking at the number of bars that have been filled on side of the central teleporter in the testing chamber. Each console also displays the progress on a meter on the right of the screen.
Once the power has been diverted, all teleporters on the map will be overloaded for 75 seconds and lead to the Pack-a-Punch room. The size of each teleporter will be visibly increased during this time. While overloaded, the Pack-a-Punch machine will be powered.
After 75 seconds, the Pack-a-Punch machine will shutdown, along with all teleporters on the map. If the machine is in use, it will wait until the current weapon is processed before powering off. The staircase and door to the Pack-a-Punch room will open up, allowing any remaining players inside to exit. The teleporters and consoles will automatically reboot after a short delay. However, the player will have to redirect power on all four consoles if they wish to access the Pack-a-Punch machine again.
